There is nothing we would like to do more than support Snapchat. It is our #1 requested feature.

uKnowKids does not currently pull Snapchat data into the uKnowKids system, and we don't believe that there are currently ANY solutions in the market today that can help you monitor Snapchat (other than solutions that require you to jailbreak your child's phone). Unfortunately, Snapchat is not parent friendly.

Candidly, we don't believe Snapchat is appropriate for kids in spite of the fact that it is popular with kids.

We have written about this extensively...

If you review the iTunes listing for Snapchat, you will find their self-disclosed ratings information to be pretty worrisome...

  • Infrequent/Mild Profanity or Crude Humor
  • Infrequent/Mild Sexual Content and Nudity
  • Infrequent/Mild Mature/Suggestive Themes
  • Infrequent/Mild Alcohol, Tobacco, or Drug Use or References

We know it is a tough fight for parents, but we simply don't think it is an appropriate app for kids, and so we aim to educate parents as best we can.

We also increasingly see issues where kids mistakenly believe that Snapchat is private. It is not. The other people they communicate with on Snapchat can and do take screenshots of the content kids send. Again, their private messages are not as private as they think.

In addition, there have been major security issues with messaging apps where hundreds of thousands of user messages were stored, hacked and shared with the world to see.

Obviously, we are not big fans of Snapchat for kids, and we think parents should aggressively discuss the risks / issues of the Snapchat app with their kids.

uKnowKids will report to you the apps on the child's mobile device so that you can see what apps are on their mobile phone

Also, we can share instructions with you on how to "lock" down your child's phones if you don't want them to add or delete apps (including Snapchat and uKnowKids) or if you want to manage their screentime. Just let us know if that is something that will be helpful to you.
